wordpress securityIf you have a WordPress blog or website, WordPress security must be an issue for you. I’m sure you must have heard about hackers attacking blogs and websites of other people. The damage done by them can be enormous, especially when the particular blog was high page ranked, displaying high in search engines and profitable.

WordPress blogs are not the only type of websites attacked by hackers. The reasoning behind their acts can’t be explained as logical. They will destroy websites for fun. I know stories of people who one day, instead of their website saw a short note informing them that their website has been blocked by Google due to the threat it carries to other Internet users. It was a result of hacker attack, who made changes to the website.

How can it be avoided?

Security of my WordPress blogs has always been one of the vital issues for me. That’s why I apply various measures of protection. Here are some of them:

1. I back up my blogs regularly using a free plugin WP DB Backup. If anything happens I can always restore my blog to the last settings. I use WP Security Scan free plugin to scan my blog regularly and WordPress Firewall to block suspicious-looking requests to WordPress.

2. I protect an access to important files on the blog’s server by putting an index.html file in the particular directory, which hides the files from public view.

3. I always update my WordPress blogs to the latest version

4. I change username and password regularly, creating complicated new ones, as there is a software hackers use to crack your username and password.

These are only some of the things I do to protect my blogs. The great thing is that they don’t require much time to do. These are also simple solutions, which can be done easily.
